Trump is here to show us what we do not want to be. But we all have a little Trump inside us. No doubt we have each bumped into our own forms of narcissism, bigotry, superiority, exclusiveness. I’ve got some of that floating around in me. It’s part of the human condition. I hope to be alert to observe it, acknowledge it, and choose kindness instead.
Throughout the ages we have raised walls. But walls don’t work. Never did work. Every wall, from China to Germany to Arizona, did not keep people out.
It’s a natural human tendency to insulate ourselves, to build invisible walls against those we don’t like, those we can’t agree with. We separate. We withdraw. We rage and fight against them. How’s that working for us?
On a deeper level, we wall off our own bad parts, the parts we don’t want. So we’re torn apart, fighting inside: the good me vs the bad me.
If I could befriend both of me, peace would fill me and pour forth. Then I would find it easier to befriend everybody.
In this age nationalism has melted into global mind; international friendships and businesses thrive; an instant chat can happen right now for you and me with anyone anywhere anytime on the face of the earth.
In this age we understand we are one people.
We are earth people.
In this age Earth herself needs us all to heal her, or she will wither.
And earth people will become extinct.
Trump’s soul-job is to put divisiveness onstage. Separation. Walls.
He puts narcissism and divisiveness right on our plate.
Whether he knows it or not, he says, Here America, do you recognize yourself in me?
Do you see what you have become?
So we, as earth people, can choose our same old behavior, or blaze a brand-new path of acceptance, allowance, and friendship for each other.
I’m afraid this means friendship for the politicians we don’t like, for the neighbors we disagree with, for the people overseas who took our jobs so cheaply.
Let’s agree to disagree, and be okay with it.
Let’s acknowledge that everyone can be who they are, where they are.
Let’s allow each one to find their own way.
We are called upon to grow bigger hearts.
This is an unprecedented shift in the human heart.
It won’t be easy.
We need each of us. Together our heart energy can move mountains.
We need each of us to call a truce inside: to accept and befriend every part of myself.
We need each of us to extend love to our own circle, our family, community, even if we never got along before. Especially if we never got along.
(That one you never liked? That’s your assignment. Build a bridge.)
Time to roll up our sleeves.
Welcome to the Shift.
